Madrid Barajas Adolfo Suárez Airport (IATA: MAD) is Spain’s largest airport and one of the busiest in Europe. The airport has four terminals: T1, T2 and T3 are connected and handle most European and domestic flights, while T4 and its satellite T4S handle long-haul and Iberia flights. A free shuttle bus connects T1 to T2 and T3, and an underground metro line connects T4 to the other terminals. Car rental desks are located in the arrivals halls of each terminal. Vehicles are collected in the rental car centre, which is accessible by a short bus transfer from each terminal. Allow extra time for the transfer if your flight arrives at T4.
Getting on the road from Madrid Airport
The airport is located approximately 13 km northeast of Madrid city centre. From the rental car centre, the M-11 motorway connects directly to the M-40 and M-30 ring roads, from which all major routes out of the city are accessible. For Toledo and the south, join the A-4 motorway southbound from the M-40. For Segovia and the northwest, take the A-6 from the M-40. For Barcelona and the east, follow the A-2 motorway. To reach the city centre, the M-11 connects to the M-30 inner ring, but entering the Madrid Central low-emission zone by car is not recommended without confirming your rental vehicle’s eligibility.
