Picking up your rental car at Mykonos Airport
About Mykonos Airport (JMK)
Mykonos Airport (IATA: JMK) is located approximately 3 km southeast of Mykonos Town (Chora), making it one of the most centrally positioned island airports in Greece. It handles a large volume of direct European routes during the summer season, as well as year-round domestic connections from Athens and Thessaloniki. The terminal is compact and gets very busy during peak arrival times in July and August. Car rental desks are in the arrivals area with vehicle collection in the small car park outside. Because Mykonos is a small island with limited public transport, a rental car or ATV is the most practical way to reach the beaches and quieter parts of the island.
Getting on the road from Mykonos Airport
Mykonos is a small island and all destinations are within a short drive. Mykonos Town is approximately 3 km northwest of the airport, around 5 minutes. The famous beach of Paradise is about 8 km south, and Super Paradise a further 2 km beyond. Elia Beach, one of the longest and more relaxed beaches on the island, is approximately 12 km south. Ano Mera, the only inland village of note with its 16th-century monastery, is about 7 km east of the airport. The northern coast toward Panormos and Agios Sostis, which tends to be quieter than the southern beaches, is approximately 10 km from the airport.
Why pick up at the airport rather than in the city
Mykonos Town is extremely congested in summer and navigating its narrow streets by car is not practical for most visitors. The benefit of a rental car on Mykonos lies in reaching the island’s beaches and quieter spots independently. Picking up at the airport and driving directly to your hotel or first beach destination avoids the chaos of the town centre entirely. Note that parking in Mykonos Town itself is very limited; most visitors park outside the centre and walk in. For more about driving in the area, see car rental in Mykonos and car rental in Greece.
