Picking up your rental car at Verona Airport
About Verona Airport (VRN)
Verona Valerio Catullo Airport (IATA: VRN), also known as Verona Villafranca Airport, is located approximately 12 km southwest of Verona city centre and around 20 km from Lake Garda’s southern shore. It is the closest major airport to Lake Garda and a convenient entry point for the Veneto and Trentino regions. Car rental desks are in the arrivals area, with vehicles collected in the dedicated rental car zone in front of the terminal. The airport handles mainly European routes and sees significant charter traffic during the summer season.
Getting on the road from Verona Airport
The airport connects directly to the A4 motorway via the Verona Sud junction. Lake Garda’s southern shore at Peschiera del Garda is approximately 20 km west, around 20 minutes. Sirmione on its famous peninsula is a further 10 km along the lakeshore. The western shore of the lake continues north toward Salo and Limone via the SS45bis; the eastern shore toward Bardolino and Malcesine via the SS249. Verona city centre is 12 km northeast. Milan is approximately 150 km west on the A4, around 90 minutes. Trento and the Dolomites are to the north via the A22.
Why pick up at the airport rather than in the city
For most visitors arriving in the Verona area, the airport is the most practical pickup point, especially if Lake Garda is the primary destination. Picking up here means you can drive directly to the lake without any intermediate transfers. Verona city centre also has a ZTL restriction zone, so collecting the car at the airport and parking outside the historic centre avoids any risk of fines.
