Picking up your rental car at Rhodes Airport
About Rhodes Airport (RHO)
Rhodes Diagoras Airport (IATA: RHO) is one of the busiest airports in Greece and the main gateway to the Dodecanese islands. The airport handles a very high volume of international charter and scheduled flights during the summer season. It operates from a single terminal with car rental desks located in the arrivals hall. Vehicle collection takes place in the dedicated rental car area outside the terminal building. July and August are extremely busy, and queues at the rental desks can be long. Completing your rental check-in online before arrival and having your documents ready will significantly reduce waiting time.
Getting on the road from Rhodes Airport
The airport is located approximately 14 km southwest of Rhodes Town. From the rental car exit, the main road northeast leads toward the town and the northern resort strip. For the east coast and Lindos, follow the road through or around Rhodes Town and continue south along the coastal route. Lindos is approximately 55 km from the airport and takes around one hour in normal traffic. For the west coast and the ancient site of Kamiros, head southwest from the airport along the main road toward Soroni and Kalavarda. Fuel stations are available within a few kilometres of the airport on both the northbound and southbound routes.
Why pick up at the airport rather than in the city
Picking up at Rhodes Airport is the standard choice for most visitors, as it allows you to load your luggage directly into the car and head to your accommodation without first navigating into Rhodes Town. If your hotel is in the south of the island near Lindos or Pefkos, collecting at the airport means you avoid the town entirely and drive directly to your destination. For visitors staying in Rhodes Town itself, the short transfer from the airport means that pickup there is equally convenient.
