Car rental at Marrakech Airport (RAK)
Marrakech Airport (RAK), also known as Marrakech Menara Airport, is one of the main gateways to Morocco. Renting a car directly at the airport is the most convenient way to start your journey, especially if you plan to explore beyond the city.
With a rental car from Marrakech Airport, you can easily reach the city of Marrakech, as well as destinations such as the Atlas Mountains, Essaouira, and the surrounding desert landscapes. Having your own car gives you the flexibility to discover Morocco’s diverse regions at your own pace.
MarSoleil offers car rental at Marrakech Airport without a credit card, including full insurance and zero excess. This means no hidden costs, no large deposit, and a smooth, hassle-free pickup right after arrival.
Picking up your rental car at Marrakech Airport
About Marrakech Airport (RAK)
Marrakech Menara Airport (IATA: RAK) is located approximately 5 km southwest of Marrakech city centre, adjacent to the Menara gardens. It is Morocco’s second busiest airport and handles a large volume of direct European routes, particularly from France, the UK, Spain, and the Netherlands. The terminal is modern and well-organised. Car rental desks are in the arrivals area with vehicle collection in the car park in front of the terminal. Marrakech is one of Africa’s most visited cities and a rental car is most useful for day trips into the surrounding High Atlas mountains and the Ourika valley.
Getting on the road from Marrakech Airport
The airport is just 5 km from Marrakech city centre via the Avenue Mohammed VI. The Ourika valley in the High Atlas, a popular day trip destination with Berber villages and waterfalls, begins approximately 30 km southeast of the city. Oukaimeden, a ski resort in the High Atlas, is about 70 km southeast via the S513 mountain road. The Tizi n’Tichka mountain pass on the route south toward Ouarzazate is approximately 100 km from Marrakech, reachable in around 90 minutes. Ouarzazate itself, the gateway to the southern desert region and the Draa valley, is about 200 km southeast. Essaouira on the Atlantic coast is approximately 175 km west on the A7 motorway.
Why pick up at the airport rather than in the city
Marrakech medina is largely car-free and best explored on foot or by calèche. A rental car is most valuable for reaching the High Atlas and the desert regions south of the mountains, destinations that are poorly served by public transport. Picking up at the airport and driving directly to a riad in the ville nouvelle, or heading straight into the mountains, is the most practical approach for visitors with a regional itinerary. Note that driving inside the medina walls is not recommended and parking near the Djemaa el-Fna is limited. For more about driving in Morocco, see car rental in Marrakech and car rental in Morocco.
